Quench Your Thirst
How Do You Quench Your Thirst?
I remember for a while that Sprite commercials used to claim that just by simply drinking Sprite, your thirst would be quenched. That's a pretty good slogan for them to sell you on the idea that your thirst will be quenched by consuming soda! Well, I'm sure we're all aware that that's not really the case, but either way, it's a good marketing scheme. But, this whole concept about thirst has me thinking about life...
When I'm thirsty, I just want a nice glass, cup, or bottle of cold water! Speaking of, I'm still getting used to the way water is served here in Europe. I was asked on the first night I went out to dinner if I wanted water "with gas" and it made me giggle because I hadn't heard that term before. It took me a minute to realize the waiter was just asking if I wanted "sparkling (with bubbles/gas)" or "distilled (no bubbles/gas)" water. I'm definitely a "No Gas" kind of water drinker. When it was served to me, I received a glass bottle of water which wasn't very big at all and it cost about 3.50 euros (no FREE refills). Needless to say, I was very thirsty throughout the meal because I had to figure out a way to ration out my water intake from this small bottle.
How can this relate to life? Well, just think about times in your life when you've been thirsting for something to happen, but you didn't quite find the right thing to quench it. This can be likened to people who may be addicted to drugs or alcohol. They obviously have a thirst or urge for a particular feeling and the way they go about satisfying that urge is through substances. Most of the time, the issues that cause them to have that urge or thirst in the first place are things that need some immediate professional or even spiritual attention. But, because it's so much easier dealing with things on a temporary basis rather than finding a permanent solution, you see people who go about quenching their thirst with the wrong things.
Now for the good news! You DON'T have to settle for a can of Sprite or a small bottle of water to quench your thirst. I have found that in my own life, God has given me refill after refill after refill of the things that have sustained my life and quenched my thirst. I still continue to have areas where I'll need him to constantly pour into me because I want to keep progressing and moving forward with the things he has destined for my life, but I recognize that he is my source in order to quench my thirst.
